Trail maintenance is clearing, cleaning, and blazing. Trail Maintainers ensure the trails are clearly marked and free of obstacles to provide a safe and enjoyable experience for all trail users.
This course helps you gain or brush up on the skills necessary to become a volunteer Trail Maintainer. Skills include using small hand tools to properly clip and clear the trail corridor, clean drainage structures, proper blazing techniques, and reporting trail conditions.
Event Details:
Meeting Location: The group will meet at the Sterling Forest Visitor Center - Google Maps Link
Time: 10AM-5PM. 10am-12pm Classroom Portion, 12pm-1pm Bring Your Own Lunch, 1pm-5pm On-Trail Training
What to bring: Work gloves, glasses for eye protection, plenty of water, lunch and snacks, long pants, sturdy closed-toe shoes, clippers, loppers, or a handsaw if you have. Spare tools will be provided for those who don't have them.
Volunteers for this workshop must be at least 18 years of age or older to participate, and complete the required Volunteer Service Agreement form, selecting "Sterling Forest State Park."
